[Fawn Diary] The Time I Ate Ostrich Meat in Taiwan

Yotsuma~!!

It's been a month since my last diary entry.

Not sure if we even really had a rainy season this year — it's already been hitting 34°C (93°F) day after day, which is rough.

Everyone, please be careful of heatstroke!

Today I want to tell you a story I forgot to mention on stream: the time I ate ostrich meat in Taiwan!

I first heard that you could get ostrich meat in Taiwan back when I joined a SODAART group stream for the very first time.

During the stream I said something like "I absolutely have to try that next time I go back to Taiwan!" — but when I asked my husband about it, he said ostrich dishes aren't something you find just anywhere, so it seemed like it'd be hard to make time for it on my next trip home, and I basically gave up on the idea.

But then!

Guess what — I finally came face to face with ostrich meat at a dinner with none other than VOFAN, the artist who designed 烈芝麻's character illustration!!!

Whaaat!!!

I'd assumed it would look and taste more like chicken (I mean, ostriches are birds too), but...

honestly, my impression after eating it was that it tasted like something between horse and beef.

At about 2 meters tall and capable of running 70–80 km/h, it really lives up to that "lean, high-quality red meat, zero wasted fat" reputation — and since I love horse meat, it was totally my kind of flavor!

I'd imagined it would be drier or have a stronger gamey smell, but that wasn't the case at all — it was really easy to eat! ✨✨

(Maybe it was just how that particular restaurant prepared and seasoned it?)

I actually managed to get good footage of my first time trying century egg tofu, but by the time the ostrich meat came out I was too nervous meeting VOFAN in person for the first time to even think about filming, haha.

I'd meant to bring it up during my Taiwan trip recap stream too, but never got the chance — so I'm glad I finally got to share it here in a post! ☺💓💓

Everything else on the menu besides the ostrich was stuff I'd never tried before too, and it was all so good it blew me away!

I'm endlessly grateful to VOFAN and his wife for taking me to such an amazing restaurant! ✨✨

(Afterward they were kind enough to let me visit their absolutely gorgeous home too.

By the way, next week is 烈芝麻's half-year anniversary + birthday celebration stream!

I'd love it if you could come watch that too!
